My professional and academic goals are closely connected. After many years of working in technology leadership, I view continuing my education as an opportunity not simply to gain additional knowledge, but to reflect on my professional experiences, strengthen areas where I can continue to grow, and prepare myself for future leadership opportunities. My studies in Organizational Leadership at St. Thomas University allow me to connect practical experience with academic learning while continuing to develop as a technology professional and organizational leader.
St. Thomas University Excellence in Stewardship Award, November 2024. This recognition represents the kind of service-centered leadership I hope to continue developing through my professional work and studies in Organizational Leadership.
Short-Term Goals
Over the next few years, my primary academic goal is to successfully complete my Organizational Leadership degree at St. Thomas University by Fall 2027 while continuing to grow in my current technology leadership role. I want to strengthen my knowledge in areas such as organizational leadership, strategic planning, governance, communication, and institutional decision-making and apply what I learn directly to challenges in the workplace.
Another important goal is to become more intentional about evaluating my own leadership. Years of professional experience have taught me a great deal, but experience becomes more valuable when I take the time to examine what worked, what could have been handled differently, and what lessons should influence my next decision. Through my studies at STU, I hope to strengthen that reflective approach while continuing to develop the skills necessary to lead people and technology effectively.
Ultimately, I want my academic development to complement my professional experience so that I am prepared to take on broader organizational responsibilities and contribute increasingly to strategic decision-making.
Long-Term Goals
Over the next five to ten years, I want to continue advancing as a technology executive and broaden my impact beyond the day-to-day management of technology operations. My long-term goal is to contribute at a senior strategic level where I can help shape organizational direction, develop strong teams, and ensure that technology investments meaningfully support institutional goals.
I also want to continue developing as a leader who creates opportunities for others to succeed. Earlier in my career, success often meant being able to solve the difficult technical problem myself. Today, I increasingly measure success by whether I can create an environment in which people collaborate effectively, develop professionally, make good decisions, and accomplish goals together.
My Organizational Leadership education at STU is an important part of that progression. By combining academic study with professional experience, I hope to develop a broader perspective on leadership and decision-making that will prepare me for increased responsibility throughout the remainder of my career.
Connection to St. Thomas University
My goals align closely with St. Thomas University’s mission to support the academic and professional success of students who become ethical leaders in a global community. Technology leaders routinely make decisions that affect people, institutional resources, security, privacy, access to information, and organizational opportunity. Technical knowledge alone is therefore not enough; effective leadership also requires sound judgment, accountability, integrity, and an understanding of how decisions affect others.
My education in Organizational Leadership at STU provides an opportunity to strengthen those qualities while connecting academic knowledge with the practical experiences I have gained throughout my career. I want to use that combination to become a more thoughtful and effective leader and to ensure that the technology organizations I lead serve the broader mission and people of the institutions they support.
